Carter is using his right leg!!!

Carter Update:  Best news ever!!!!!! From Kelly: Carter is using his right leg. He's leaning a bit on the left, but when he walks it's about even now. We are currently waiting to see about the surgery on his left front leg until the right one is a lot more stable.  UPDATE 04/23/12: Carter had his follow-up visit at MSU today.  The surgeon was very pleased.  He said Carter is doing better than expected!!!

This is what Kelly had to say about Carter: "He's a living, breathing creature. I would have taken on another job to pay for it. Instead, wonderful people with huge hearts came through. Thank you.  My goal is to make him happy as long as we can."  And HAPPY he is!!!

Part of his recovery will entail physical therapy at a cost of $60 each time.  He should go approximately 3 x a week to begin with.  So, once again, if you can find it in your heart and pockets Carter can still use your help.  Kelly will be learning techniques to use at home and when the weather warms up Carter will be getting his very own swimming pool to use for therapy.  As always many sloppy kisses from Carter (who gets more blonde fur w/each shave for surgery) and mine & Kelly's gratitude.  Thank you!  A new pic below.

Here is his story:

Carter was found on a doorstep and taken to a Lansing shelter. He had two broken legs; right front and right back leg.  Both were pinned by Dr. Wilson but the front right didn't take. Amputation seemed to be the right thing to do but the left front was weakening. A recent x-ray of the left front leg found that it was also damaged during whatever trauma Carter experienced. This was missed initially and, because it was missed, it has caused a deformity to his left ankle/foot which is turning in to compensate for the fracture that was not treated. He will need a surgery to re-break and then pin this leg.

Carter is a very happy puppy. He loves to play and yes, even run (which hurts and has to be closely monitored and controlled), which won’t be painful for him after the surgeries.  As we like to say, “Carter doesn’t know he’s broken”. He does all he can to keep up with his 3 Border Collie siblings. Thank you for your support!!!

Carter has been through so much in his young life we are just not ready to give up on him because of cost.  He deserves so much more.  His foster mom, Kelly stepped up and adopted Carter when it became apparent that he was unadoptable because of the mounting medical bills, not to mention she had completely fallen in love with him.  Who wouldn't?  Look at that face.  Anyway, on behalf of myself, Carter's Mom, Kelly, and Carter we thank you for any amount you can give.
